What is a Web Banner?
Have you ever driven on a highway, only to see a gigantic billboard blocking out the sun? Well imagine downsizing that advertisement and then creating a virtual representation of it that you place online and you get yourself a web banner. So, in short, a web banner is just a form of advertising used online.
In this lesson we're going to discuss some design aspects related to web banners and showcase a couple examples.
Design
When making a web banner, a designer needs to keep several things in mind. First of all, what is the shape of the web banner? Quite often, web banners are rectangular in shape. Usually the vertical axis or the horizontal axis is much longer than the other. This creates a skinny-looking rectangle in a sense. However, some web banners are square-shaped.
In addition to figuring out the shape of your web-banner, you'll need to consider the size of it. In other words, what are the dimensions? Some web banners are tiny and others are absolutely huge. The size of the web-banner will often depend on where you're placing it and who is asking you to design it. A website may have size restrictions they need you to keep in mind.
